I have watched a fascinating documentary tonight - the title of this post is the title of the documentary. It has blown me away with stories of excess, drug use, nightclubs, hedonism and eventually death to the biggest issue to hit any community in our lifetime - AIDS.
Some of it is unashamedly funny like the man who said when a guy asked him to wear a condom he later told his friend "that some sicko asked me to wear a condom" to the dominant master in the baths who was questioning a sub "Yes what?" to which the sub replied "Yes Mary"
Many people have been interviewed for the documentary included noted photographer Tom Bianchi and activist and author Larry Kramer. They amongst many others look back fondly at being hosed down in a nightclub to was the cum off your body to going to the trucks which were parked at docks in NYC and going in and fucking in the dark.
A hedonistic time not seen since the Roman times before the advent of AIDS has really interested me - the disco soundtrack itself is fabulous - the stories fascinate me of so many people who have now lived through the last thirty years of unadulterated and uninhibited sex and also through hell. One man says he went to an orgy in Fire Island and wanted to stay but his boyfriend asked him to leave. He then noted that 5 years later every man at that orgy had been lost to AIDS.
It really makes me think of that time of free love and release in the gay community after the Stonewall riots - helped along with criso, poppers, disco and tight shorts - making this glorious time feel like it would never end...... all good things do.

I LOVE THAT KIND OF STORIES AS WELL. I WOULD LOVE TO READ LARRY KRAMER BOOKS. I HAVE THE SAME FEELINGS AS YOU ABOUT THAT GOLDEN ERA OF FREEDOM
