SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES
I stupidly didn't go to see a Broadway show when I visited in March. Now I know this is criminal as David took in Beauty and the Beast, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and La Cage Aux Folles. La Cage kind of interested me but I think I was getting the arse fucked off me that day so was notably absent. One new musical interested me and I just downloaded the soundtrack, now I know this can't do the live performance justice but it's the closest thing I'll get before I DO actually go to see 'WICKED'
Wicked is the story of Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West before Dorothy landed in Oz from over the rainbow. It's based on the book by Gregory Maguire who details the school days of Glinda and the Wicked Witch who's called Elphaba. They roomed at boarding school in Oz and formed a strange friendship. Elphaba is ostracised because of her green skin and Glinda, being every chirpy and popular makes friends with her although eventually Elphaba's ambition and drive send her in opposite directions and eventually as we know - to her meltdown. i'm also downloading some live performances from the original cast who are magnificent on the soundtrack. Standout tracks are 'Defying Gravity' 'Popular' and the most stunning song ever in musicals 'For Good' a torchy ballad sung superbly by Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Idina Menzel as Elpheba. FYI - Idina won the Tony for her portrayal. These two powerhouse voices make the show's score soar so beautifully and it's a privilege to hear such talented voices - I defy anyone to listen to some of the tracks and not be spellbound
My only hope is that the show is still playing on Broadway when I return next year as the Broadway public can be quite fickle but the reviews are excellent so I'm hoping for a long enough run til I arrive!!

I watched Kristin on the David letterman show, and she was just a chatty, dithering girl. Just perfect for the role of Glinda. She came across like a natural blond, as oppose to acting blond. Kinda Dolly Parton for the New Millenium.
I would love to see Wicked also, as I had seen the Billboards on Broadway for it, then when I came back home I watched a documentary about broadway and how it began. Very interesting, and the ammount of great actors that bagan on broadway, the production costs is/are unbelievable!!
Wicked is definately a show on the top of my list to go see, and like Jaimie, I canny wait to go back and see many more!!
