'Sins' is one of those mid eighties camp mini series - a story of saga, drama, murder, rape, high fashion, family, revenge, parties and the creme de la creme, Joan Collins. She produced this herself during the hiatus of Dynasty after the Moldavia Massacre and headed to Paris, New York, the French Riviera and Venice.
In a nutshell Joanie plays Helene Junot who runs a massive publication empire, her magazine 'Woman of Today' kind of like 'Woman's Own' is struggling. Helene realises there are threats to her power which hark back to people whom she has fought with in the past...
THE NASTY BASTARDS
CARL VON EIDERFELD - Nazi General who tortured and killed Helene's mother. Helene had him prosecuted years later for war crimes
HUBERT DE VILLES - Dashing Count De Villes who fell for Helene but whom she spurned
ZIZI BRYANT - A jealous architect, Helene had an affair with her husband who died during an argument
MARCELLO D'ITRI - Again ruined in business by Helene and she knocked him back.
The story is mainly told in flashback to Helene in the war then blossoming to a young seamstress then a model, then running a fashion house. ALong the way she is reunited with her brother Edmund and falls for famed pianist Eric Hovland who is murdered by Hubert de Villes and then she lusts after American soldier, David Westfield who apparently dies but turns out he didn't.
Valentino designed over 30 of Joan's 80 costume changes in the mini series and it's basically a chance for Joan to show off some rather large shoulder pads and play a similar but more sympathetic role than Alexis. It's big budget all the way and Joan's co-stars as Timothy Dalton, Jean Pierre Aumont, Marisa Berenson, Steven Berkoff and Gene Kelly. I remember watching this years ago late at night and found it all terribly kitsch and it had Joan Collins in it, always looking fabulous - even when being chased by a rottweiller. As always Helene comes out on top - happiness is restored at Junot Tower and the happy ending is had by all. Spectacular masquerade balls in Venice and couture houses in Paris make for a wonderful setting and to see Joan and Gene Kelly beautifully bewigged on a boat sailing down the Seine is nothing short of a camp outrage!!
