READING THE WRITES

I've given in and am actually reading The Da Vinci Code. Everyone in work has raved about the book but I'm not sure, I'm into it but some of it goes a bit too far into symbolism for my bag to be honest and it's not a patch on the Mapp & Lucia novels or the best book ever written, Bette & Joan: The Divine Feud. I have two copies of that, one for reading and one for show! It's not just a biography but a way of life that reads like every chapter is an article from the National Enquirer, it's so sensational. For example, the incident when Rosalind Russell and Bette Davis on a train selling war bonds during World War 2 when Bette spotted Joan embarking aswell. Bette ran through to Roz and said "Guess who's just boarded? The cocksucker, Joan Crawford!" It's that kind of book.

On top of the Da Vinci Code, I've started "DV" Nothing at all to do with double vaginal penetration or Donatella Versace but rather Diana Vreeland. Diana was a legend in fashion and helmed Vogue magazine for years through the forties, fifties and sixties. I stumbled across this whilst looking for The Devil Wears Prada. A flimsy excuse for a cover up of Anna Nuclear Wintour and her assistant at Vogue. Anna's ex assistant wrote the novel about a young aspiring journalist and her big bad wolf of a boss aka Nuclear Wintour. I scrapped the thought of getting the book and instead got one of those unauthorised sensationalist books about Anna Wintour herself. I also must get back into the Mapp & Lucia novels by EF Benson. I had an overdose of them on holiday last year and am trying my best to hold out reading the last book as it means I will have finished them and they're too fabulous to have completed too quickly. Any other good juicy reads will be greatly appreciated!!
