I think of myself as a relatively clued up girl of the world. I've met people from all walks of life and background and it does take a fair bit to have me shaken. So last night I saw some things that opened my eyes just that little bit further.
I had gone for yet another wonderful step class. The atmosphere was fantastic and so Americanized with whoops and cheers going on throughout the class. You couldn't fail but get your wee pins moving and the music was brilliant to boot. So afterward, I called Jon and asked if he fancied going for drinks. I arrived at his apartment block at about 10.30 as arranged but the front door was locked as it was broken and note put up by the concierge. Jon wasn't answering his phone so I paced around outside - in the middle of the red light district. In the twenty minutes or so that I was standing there, I saw one rather rough looking hooker be stopped on the main road and she must've bartered for a good 5 minutes with her potential client but he drove off, then she saw a guy walking along the street and picked him up - however, her friend wasn't happy and this other hooker starting shouting at her in the middle of the road. Then a really rough hooker who was carrying her ASDA shopping bags with her was chasing cars all over the place. The unhappy hooker made her way to me - I was perched on a wee seat at the bus stop, she mumbled something as she approached me and all I could muster was a "No Sister!" and she got the hint that I was either looking to pick up trade myself or that This Sister was not in the need for pussy anytime soon.
On top of this, the police kept on circling the blocks - as did a fair few cars which did panic me a bit. Imagine if they'd pulled me over for loitering with the ladies of the night??! What would I do? What would I say? Thankfully, Jon emerged and we had a rather non eventful night after that but it did fill me with a bit of confidence though, that if times did get hard, I could always put my legs in the air, point my heels to God and think of handbags.

...the only thing is that the thoughts of handbags can get disrupted by the oddest things...
