MAKE WAY FOR MISS ROSS

Thursday night, I headed to see the legend that is Miss Diana Ross in concert. Myself, Jon, Stewart, Cam, Julia and Debs all had cracking seats and her voice was just fabulous. She started with I'm Coming Out and wore that spicy red number you see above. The hits came pouring out from Miss Ross and those "Good ol' days of the super duper Supremes" came flooding back. She laughed and shimmied her way through 4 costume changes and over 20 classic tracks. All live of course! A strange thing happens at a Diana Ross concert which was full of women and gay men and couples who probably had one of her hits as the first song at their wedding. But anyway, whenever Diana sings an upbeat number, everyone dances and then automatically sit down whenever a ballad appears. It's like a religious experience but a glittering, fabulous one at that!

Miss Ross did very few songs from her new album (smart girl to concentrate on the hits) but she did find time at the end to mention her new cd and talk about love a lot. Miss Ross must be getting philosophical in her 60s as the prattled on for ten minutes about love before leaving the stage for the last time shouting "If you need me, call me" from the highlight of the night - her rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" she always does this segued from the theme from Mahogany so I knew what to expect but the sound was amazing and there is actually nothing as camp as Diana Ross in black boas and figure hugging gown singing her first solo hit. Miss Ross is the real deal diva - she's been through it all in the past 40 odd years but still going strong, she gives the best concert I've ever seen. No dancers, just a band and her singing with 2 backing artists - simply inspiring!

Lucky you getting to see Miss Ross! Sounds fabulous. I've heard she can be a bit "strange" in the way she relates to the audience as your post attests. She doesn't look bad going by that pic...bet she has a few wrinkles though. I hope the security staff didn't try to feel her up, lol. Does she still have a good voice?

"I'm Coming Out" is a bit overplayed but an undisputed classic, and I love the "Diana" album - brilliant. She worked so well with the Chic team, she should have done more stuff with them. Although did you hear the story about how she demanded that the whole album was re-recorded with her vocal made louder? Diva Diana? Surely not.
