QUEEN BEA YET AGAIN

I'm ill with the cold - It's been threatening with a sore throat for a few days and now I have a severe case of man flu. I'm so pathetic and I'm stuck watching Queen Bea Smith in Prisoner meting out her own brand of justice by actually branding bad bitch Nola McKenzie with a soldering iron on her chest with the letter K for Killer!

The extras are fabulous on the dvd with interviews with Val Lehman and Amanda Muggleton who give a real insight into the making of the show with plenty of backstage chat!

Val's just revealed that in her last episode she wanted to have Bea kill The Freak but because Val was leaving and Sheila Florance as Lizzie was also leaving, the couldn't kill the character off. Some episodes earlier, Val was supposed to be killed off herself in a bomb episode but Val got wind of the plot and headed straight to the executives who rethought their ideas to kill off Queen Bea.

It's too camp for words and I have a new appreciation for denim and checks!!

Will be writing again when I'm better - probably tomorrow if the man flu dies down!!

Hope you're feeling better now.

I can think of worse things to do than being stuck at home watching Prisoner! Oddly enough I've been watching it too - can't remember if I mentioned it before but I purchased the entire series DVD boxset not too long ago - it's fab! Me and my hubbie are now up to episode 20 - not too far to go then - latest episode had Frankie Doyle getting shot and Doreen turning into a hardcase. The early episodes have a real kind of rawness about them that the later ones lack.

Nola was such a great villain. Have just done a post over on my own blog about some of the female characters of Prisoner including her, go take a look if you fancy.

I remember all that stuff about how Bea was supposed to leave. Her real departure, though well-acted, was quite low key I thought and to have her later on killed in a fire (off screen) smacked of sour grapes on the part of the production team - just cos they couldn't persuade Val L to return they bump her off entirely!
