She has with singleminded determination embedded herself into the world's culture and has had some kind of enduring appeal that has been going on for over 40 years - so i guess she must be doing something right.
The fact that she belted a security officer at Heathrow Airport and was put in jail for drink driving and that she flicks her hair a lot and wears fabulous gowns and makes everyone call her Miss Ross and upstages everyone in concerts and that she wrote an ad denouncing former staff in a paper and that she broke out on her own to become Miss Diana Ross rather than a Supreme may all have something to do with that said enduring appeal.
And all that without even starting on all those hits spanning over 4 decades both in The Supremes and then as a solo artist. Her distinctive voice and style always make me feel kinda fuzzy and I have more Diana CDs kicking about the flat than any other artist. More on Miss Ross' hi-jinx later but wanted to just mention how utterly fucking fabulous she is. I went to see her in March 2004 and she belted out nearly 30 tracks over 2 hours and who else can get away with mixing 'Do You Know Where You're Going To?' into 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' except Diana?!! Mary PWilson be damned althoug ps - her book 'Dreamgirl' is a riveting read, esPecially when she writes about Diana snubbing Mary and her daughter backstage one night and refusing to let them in to visit her - even though Diana is the girl's godmother!! In saying that Mary had to be put under hypnosis to recollect a lot for her book so she seems almost as cuckoo as Miss Ross.

She can definitely sing, that's for sure, though now she's sort of back to rags again- not that she's poor, but her behavior is just pathetic. She could make Courtney Love blush!
