James Dean. One of my all time favourite actors - A few years ago I bought a box set that had East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause on it. I had done my research and bought Giant at the same time such was my interest in this moody icon. James Dean filmed only 3 features in his lifetime and Giant wasn't released until after his death in 1955 in a car crash. My favourite is East of Eden - a take on the Bible's story of Cain and Abel the warring brothers, Dean played Cal and was at war with everyone in town including his brother Aron. The scene that made me want to mother and screw with James Dean all at the same time is the one where he disappears to find his mother right at the beginning of the movie and she's basically a madam from Monterey who has no clue who James is, he tries to confront her later on but seeing James sitting outside waiting for her, desperate for attention made my heart melt which is why James Dean is the one! You know, the one guy who is the ultimate man you'd love to be with, for some it's Sean Connery, for others Brad Pitt or Clark Gable. The guy who when his name is mentioned in any conversation helps create that mental picture of you and him kissing under an apple tree and being happy as a pig in shit. Well James Dean is that man for me - as Miranda said in Sex and the City - for yesterday, today and tomorrow although if he were still living he'd probably have done a guest spot on Dynasty in the 80s and possibly be a father to one of the Desperate Housewives in 2005. Because he died so young he never succumbed to the ravages of ageing, similarly with Marilyn Monroe and to an extent Elvis Presley although near the end he was a bloater!
I have tonnes of James Dean 8 x10s that I've hoarded over the years and initially when I moved in, I planned to put some up on the walls to give a bit more of my pizzazz into the flat but just never got around to it. I may just start framing Jamesie boy for my walls to be adorned with this hunkaspunk as Kath n Kim would say!
Part of the attraction with James is surely that he was kind of playing for my team, maybe not exclusively which would also be very attractive cos bisexuals I tend to think are just greedy but who would kick James Dean out of bed for farting? Not me! He is an icon of every generation and definitely an amazing iconic figure in my life.
