CRAZYSEXYCOOL

I know this isn't high camp although in a way it is......

Picture it, 1995, I'm studying for my standard grades and have just had cable TV installed and become hooked on MTV Europe. It's fabulous and in their regualr countdown which is now TRL, the fabulous song and video 'Waterfalls' by TLC is shown all the time. I go out and buy the CD single along with Madonna's 'Human Nature' I also manage to see videos of songs like Diggin On You, Creep and Red Light Special and I'm hooked. That Xmas I got a 3CD mini hi-fi (how 90s) and the one CD I played along with Eternal was TLC's CrazySexyCool.

It was hip, R & B and utterly accessible. They were like a black Bananarama with a cheeky bird who burns houses down and the cute one who had shades of a moustache and then the butch dykey one who dyed her hair badly. Together, they had chemistry and I cheered as they won the Billboard Awards that year. I felt like such a sophistikat as I knew the words to Left Eye's rap in Switch and Waterfalls which was always one for the school common room. I lent the album out and as it was such hot property, loved that everyone in school 'got' TLC - Even if I didn't 'get' them totally, Waterfalls was probably one of the most fabulous funky tracks I'd heard and it hasn't diminished. I loved their early image where they stuck condoms all over their clothes then ventured into more adult wear by wearing MASSIVE silk pyjamas in a few of their videos. Their next album Fanmail didn't hit the spot for me and when Lisa Lefteye Lopez died I was in shock but more so when I saw the T-Boz and Chilli crying their hearts out at the MTV awards. They were an excellent band and managed to hook their R & B sound into this queen's heart!

Something made me relisten to this album tonight and it's still great and hasn't aged at all, it's great for making l'amour to, to sing along to whilst dusting or just background music so I can sing like a bad version of Left Eye/Chilli/T-Boz rolled into one gay boy! It does and is what it says on the cover - Crazy Sexy Cool.

The dance they were doing in that video was really cool- it looked easy, but I can tell you that it's very hard to do. Not that tried, ahem.
