PROGNOSIS NEGATIVE

I just rewatched the tearjerker Dark Victory tonight and I cried my eyes out. I haven't been able to watch it fully since that fateful night 6 years ago when I first saw it. Well tonight I sat down and for the last twenty minutes, literally sobbed my heart out, it was an amazing performance by Bette Davis, possibly her finest. Geraldine Fitzgerald was superb too as her friend Ann but it's Davis who shines through.

Hilarious when she meets Ann and her lover for lunch after reading her doctor's file to discover that she is terminally ill. She reads the menu at lunch and smiles "I'll have a large dose of... PROGNOSIS NEGATVE" However when she plants hyacinths with Ann and the light gets dimmer as hse becomes more blinded simply broke my heart all over again. She sends her hubby away as she must face her fate alone, she sends Ann away and ascends the stairs of her house blindly to the strings of Max Steiner's glorious score with celestial angels singing as he meets her death. It's simply glorious and bringing a tear to my eye again as I write.

They don't make them like this anymore.
