IN MEMORIUM

Looking back at 2006, it was a poor year for trash and camp with two major shows being cancelled in the UK. The West Wing and Will & Grace finished in the States and Desperate Housewives was shaky until the start of season 3.

Just in December, the final episode of prison drama Bad Girls aired. A Xmas special meant the return of Natalie Buxton as a ghostly presence although the majority of storylines were left unresolved in a piss poor cliffhanger - not befitting a show that had Stephanie Beacham and Kate O'Mara appear. I will miss Stephanie's star turn in the show - she was the best thing in it with crazy Amanda Barrie as Costa Cons Phyl and Bev.

The other show that even Joan Collins couldn't save was Footballers Wives. It started out with the character that held it together, Tanya Turner and only picked up when she returned and did battle with Joan Collins character Eva De Wolffe. Joan was in two episodes which were brilliant but on rewatching, I didn't care about any other storylines that didn't have Tanya or Eva in them. Tanya carried on for a few more episodes but it finished with her life hanging in the balance possibly taking poisonous cocaine - it was more fitting to have the show end with a real cliffhanger but some resolution would have been good from both shows to give viewers that final chapter closing. My next post will be full of quotes from Bad Girls and the Footballers Wives - oneliners that simply must be dropped into conversations whenever possible. It might not relate to football or prison but treat yourself.....!

Hello Caress darling!

I started off watching the first series of "Desperate Housewives" and for some reason just couldn't get into it. The new series looks more promising though with some funny plotlines. My partner is more into it than me.

And I wish I'd started watching "Footbller's Wives" earlier on! I caught a few episodes from the last and final series. And like you I was dying to see the face-off between Tanya and Eva (Joan Collins is one of my favourite camp actresses). Don't know what you think but I thought the rivalry between them could have been better done. Considering they had one bitching scene right next to a swimming pool, it should have been used for a cat-fight for gawd's sakes!! Now in "Dynasty" they really knew how to have a GOOD bitch-fight .. Alexis and Krystle in the artist's studio ... Alexis and Krystle in the lily pond ... fabulous!

A lot of people seemed to be of the opinion that "Footballers" ran out of steam in the last series. I heard that the earlier series were a lot more satirical (sending up the world of football, the lifestyles of the players and their wives etc)which is why I wish I'd watched it properly before ... but at the end it lost its edge. Oh well.

Now if you want to see some decent high quality trash, with the added bonus of some hot sexy men, might I suggest "Dante's Cove"? A recent mini-series shown in the US. I loved it! The first series is out on DVD and I'm sure the second series will be out soon. If you fancy a look, try dantescove.com . Or a post I wrote on it a while back (sorry can't figure out how to do the linking thing ...)

Looking forward to hearing your one-liners, sweetie.
