O

Today's letter is O. O stands for Oprah. As in Oprah Winfrey. I was feeling a bit blah on Friday and found a bargain dvd. Celebrating 20 years of the Oprah Winfrey Show, it's a 6 dvd extravaganza showing all the highlights of her fantastic hairstyles, weight issues, bad clothes, crazy issues and brilliant interviews. Oprah is more sophisticated than a lot of the other talk shows. Forget Sally Jessy Raphael, Jenny Jones, Maury Povich and all the other great pretenders - there's only one Oprah. She's made a fortune and the Oprah phenomenon is alive and kicking. Books featured on her own book club have recorded huge sales and issues that have previously been low key move to the forefront and get funding because they're featured on her show.

So Friday night, I put in the first disc. Watched the deceptive frst part giving the background to the start of her show and then Oprah goes in for the kill with a section called Heartprints. She reminisces about special guests who've overcome adversity or touched her and viewers hearts. Well, I'm a tough cookie most of the time but the floodgates opened and I bawled my eyes out for a good hour or so. I woke up yesterday and resembled an Asian for most of the day with my puffy eyes.

I'm feeling the Oprah love - the disc is superb and I love it - I'm addicted. In fact, I could be a topic on her next show! In fact, I'm going to order a subscription for her "O" magazine that her best friend Gayle edits. Gayle appears quite often on the show and part of Oprah's appeal is her ability to still relate to middle America, she really has her finger on the pulse.

Oprah and Gayle are totally a couple.

Wonder what their beards get paid?

Watch out! I suspect that Oprah owns most of the western world and you might end up being a trinket on her bracelet of souls!!!

(no, I think she does some incredible things and still manages to appear fairly in touch with the world. ...but i do tire of her branding)

oh, i think the beards are paid quite well!

here in SF I know a guy who was making Oprah & Gayle T-shirts in the Hip Hop style on these giant shirts. It was funny. ...but, sales were not so good. He gave them away to a homeless shelter.

...so, I sometimes seem crack addicts and homeless people wearing these Hip Hop style t-shirts only instead of Tupac, Allyah or Dr. Dre - their shirts sport a romantic pose of Oprah & Gayle.

...I wish I had kept mine, but I gave it to a tourist who was having a tooth crowned. would have been a kick ass beach shirt.
