TONY SURPRISE

The Tony Awards are tonight in New York - I'd love to have gone to see some of the shows performing. New musical Spring Awakening is the one to beat although after hearing some of the numbers, it isn't really my bag. Much more up my alleyway are Curtains and Grey Gardens. Christine Ebersole should win for Grey Gardens and Curtains seems camp and fabulous in the same manner as The Drowsy Chaperone.

A Chorus Line revival better win - it's a classic musical that apparently hasn't been tampered with too much and is really the ultimate backstage musical. A Chorus Line has non stop unforgettable numbers. I remember reading Tales oF The City when the characters were talking about which song was THE song that year, was it What I Did For Love or was it The Music And The Mirror?

I just downloaded the new cast recording and it's superb. Never listen to the horrendously tacky movie version, either the new cast or Miss Betty Buckley in the original are the best soundtracks. On a downloading frenzy, I nabbed some of the new London cast of Cabaret that I saw at the start of the year in a wonderful production. Anna Maxwell Martin's Sally Bowles isn't a patch on Natasha Richardson or Liza Minnelli but the actual show was unique and exciting. I can't wait to see Elaine Paige in The Drwosy Chaperone next month and of course Helen Dallimore's final show of Wicked which will be an amazing experience!!

I so want to see the musical version of GREY GARDENS!!! Not so sure about A CHORUS LINE. ...I mean that movie version was just so damned good! Anytime a Landers sister is involved -- well, I'm so there! lol!
