CHILD'S PLAY

I sneaked a peek at the trailer of Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and it looks fabulous, I also downloaded the song "Pure Imagination" from the 70s movie which is a fave of mine and I couldn't help but wonder (thank you Carrie Bradshaw) to when I was in primary school and we read scenes from the play.

It was Primary 3 and twice a week we had clubs after school. Naturally being a DIT (Diva In Training) I picked drama!!! I was delighted at the choice of play "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" and when it came to casting I somehow managed to snag not 1 but 2 roles in the scene we were to act out after a few weeks rehearsal. I was determined not to be an Oompa Loompa so was cast as spolit brat Veruca Salt, however in the same scene there was also gum chewing Violet Beauregarde and I also played her! Gender bending at the age of 8 was definitely character building and I remember saying Veruca's lines then dashing offstage to stick some gum in my gob and pull on my nana's purple cardigan so that the audience would recognise the character change.

Another game I used to play that most of my friends have found hilarious is the now infamous "Kathy and Katherine" with my mum. This normally happened after dinner when my mum would call me in to the kitchen to dry the dishes or help her tidy up. She'd be Kathy and I'd be Katherine and as we were working we'd just gossip and talk about the neighbours and what we'd been doing before the family came from work and school because we were hardworking housewives - not desperate housewives though! Kathy and Katherine carried on for quite a while as far as I remember and all i can say is - the dishes were sparkling cos Katherine didn't like the housework to be left to her hubbie!

Sometimes I think even I'm too gay to function!!

I'm not normally a fan of remakes, but since Tim Burton is doing it, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Thanks for the lovely email. Don't be a stranger, alright? ^_^
